Job summary

Foretravel Inc in Nacogdoches, TX seeks a Design Engineer to lead design and documentation of motorhome systems from concept to production. You will own CAD models, drawings, and BOMs, driving ECOs and DFx improvements.

Collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Service is essential to ensure manufacturability and compliance. The role emphasizes design for reliability, field feedback, and lifecycle support with strong emphasis on real-world problem solving and documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical or related field.
  • 2+ years of mechanical/electromechanical design experience.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD; Creo strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, and ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to read schematics and technical specs.
  • Experience with BOM structuring and revision control.

Responsibilities

  • Design components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD (Creo) per RVIA and standards.
  • Create and maintain drawings, models, and BOMs for production.
  • Prepare ECOs/Change Notices with proper revision control.
  • Apply DFM/DFA to reduce cost and improve manufacturability.
  • Develop prototypes and perform design verification/validation testing.
  • Root cause analysis of field/warranty issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Production and Service to resolve build/design issues.
  • Support supplier evaluation and review drawings/specs.
  • Ensure designs comply with RVIA, DOT, FMVSS and regulations.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and CAD data.

Position Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of motorhome systems and components, from concept through production release. This role owns engineering drawings, 3D models, and bills of material for new and revised designs, and works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Service to ensure designs are manufacturable, compliant, and reliable. The Design Engineer drives design improvements based on field performance, warranty trends, and production feedback, and serves as the technical authority on assigned systems throughout the product lifecycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design new components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD (Creo) in accordance with engineering standards and RVIA requirements
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, models, and bills of material (BOM) for production use
  • Generate and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Change Notices, ensuring proper revision control and documentation
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles to reduce production cost, installation time, and rework
  • Develop and evaluate prototypes; conduct design verification and validation testing
  • Perform root cause analysis on field returns, warranty claims, and production quality issues, and implement corrective design actions
  • Collaborate with Production and Service technicians to resolve build and installation issues tied to design intent
  • Support supplier selection and evaluation for new components, including reviewing supplier drawings and specifications
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable RVIA, DOT, FMVSS, and other regulatory standards
  • Maintain and organize engineering documentation, drawing archives, and CAD data
  • Partner with Purchasing on part sourcing, cost targets, and lead-time considerations during design
  • Other duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical design, preferably in RV, automotive, or heavy-vehicle manufacturing
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; Creo experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and engineering drawing standards (ASME Y14.5)
  • Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems as applied to motorhome design
  • Experience with bill of materials (BOM) structuring and revision/change control processes
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Effective cross-functional communication with Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Service teams
