Job summary

Barnard College’s Design Center seeks a part-time Graduate Assistant to support operations, tooling, and workshops. You will supervise open hours, assist with training student staff, and help with maintenance and inventory while collaborating with the Associate Director and Coordinator.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree and enrollment in a graduate program, plus skills in sewing, 3D printing, laser cutting, or wearable technology, and proficiency in Illustrator, AutoCAD, Rhino, or

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; enrollment in a graduate degree program.
  • Proficient with design software such as Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD/Rhino, and Tinkercad.
  • Experience with sewing, textile arts, 3D printing, laser cutting, woodworking, or microcontroller programming is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work on a team and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Daily Operations: provide front-facing support during open hours and assist with training student staff and inventory.
  • Instructional and Curriculum Support: help with workshops and co-teaching of safety orientations and beginner workshops.
  • Community Building: support inclusive makerspace culture and assist with communications tasks like social media and flyers.
  • Additional duties as needed.
