Job summary

Penn Medicine's Dermatopathology Lab seeks a skilled Technical Lab Assistant to perform pre-analytical tasks, accession cases, and coordinate specimen handling at Penn Center for Personalized Diagnostics. You will support high‑volume processing and maintain detailed records in the LIS.

Responsibilities include specimen tracking, equipment upkeep, and adherence to safety and quality standards while collaborating with clinical and pathology staff to ensure accurate test results and timely

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required.
  • Enrollment in an accredited Histotechnology program or related laboratory program.
  • 5+ years of experience as Dermatopathology Technical Lab Assistant I or equivalent.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) / Penn Chart is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows SOP for collecting and processing pathology specimens and coordinates pickups for 300–500 daily.
  • Reviews patient samples and requisitions, maintains logs, and ensures proper documentation.
  • Registers and accession cases in LIS, verifies insurances, and creates barcodes for tests.
  • Maintains lab equipment and inventory, and ensures proper storage and waste disposal.
  • Ensures safety and compliance with CMS and Joint Commission standards.

Education

H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
