Job summary

Eversource Energy is seeking a DER Planning Engineer to provide distribution-focused expertise in DER studies and project development. You will execute technical reviews, modeling and analyses for interconnecting generation and storage with the distribution network.

Key responsibilities include building power flow models, assessing DER impacts on ISO-NE, and preparing interconnection documentation. Strong collaboration and ownership of projects are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related field.
• 3+ years of professional power systems experience; electric utility background preferred.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop distribution system power flow models using Synergi and PSCAD.
• Assess DER integration impacts on distribution and ISO-NE systems.
• Prepare documentation for ISO-NE interconnection process as needed.
• Review distribution interconnection requests and Pre-Application Reports.
• Provide review and feasibility assessment for interconnection queue applications.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine planning needs.
• Verify technical feasibility of proposed plans using industry standards.
• Develop design solutions to mitigate assessment criteria violations.
• Identify key technical issues and engineering alternatives for DER interconnections.
• Ownership of projects and accountability for schedules.
• Participate in customer calls to explain technical findings.
• Provide weekly updates on project deliverables.
• Assist with PAFs and internal authorization documents; present at monthly meetings.
• Represent the company on relevant industry committees.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to engineer customer-focused solutions.
• Maintain inverter list by auditing UL certifications for new models.
• Deliver clear technical analyses and action plans to stakeholders.
• Support emergency storm response during severe weather or outages.
