Job summary

Jefferson County in Colorado seeks a Deputy Sheriff Trainee to begin POST certification and complete the initial field training program. The role will be assigned to either Patrol or Detention after training, with a competitive internal process for assignments.

The position offers academy pay of $33.74 per hour, a $5,000 sign-on bonus upon successful completion, and standard benefits. Hours are 40 per week with rotating shifts and required examinations.

Qualifications

• Sixty semester or ninety quarter hours from an accredited college/university preferred.
• Must be 21 years of age and eligibility for background investigation, polygraph, medical and psychological exams.
• Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license by hire date.

Responsibilities

• Obtains a general knowledge of modern law enforcement practices and investigation techniques.
• Develops skill in firearms and other law enforcement equipment handling.
• Exercise sound judgment and communicate effectively in emergencies and routine situations.
