Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a Law Enforcement Deputy with no experience or training required to begin at the POST Academy. The program includes POST certification training paid by the county, an hourly wage, and full benefits during attendance.

The recruitment targets an academy with a tentative start date of March 1, 2027. Prior service credit for full-time law enforcement experience may apply, with one year credit for each year worked.

Qualifications

• Must be a resident of the State of Utah at the time of hire.
• Must be 21 years of age at the time of hire.
• Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s license at time of hire.
• Must be free of any physical, emotional, or mental condition that would prevent performing the functions of a Deputy.
• Passing NPOST score of 70% or higher.

Responsibilities

• Responds to calls for service and assists other officers.
• Suppresses crime by identification and apprehension of suspects.
• Regulates non-criminal conduct such as traffic and crowd control.
• Reports to scenes of traffic collisions and investigates causes and results.
• Secures crime scenes, conducts preliminary investigations, and assists in prosecutions.
• Attends regular training classes in police methods.
• Prepares thorough reports of investigations and daily activity.
• Maintains knowledge of criminal and traffic law.
• Completes a minimum of 40 hours annual in-service training.
