Job summary

CIR is seeking a Deputy Regional Director in Southern California (Los Angeles County or San Diego) to implement the UC internal organizing strategic plan. You will oversee representation work and issue-based campaigns, guiding local organizing efforts and collaborating with strategic campaigns, legal, public affairs, and communications teams.

You will supervise Organizers, participate in staff recruitment, and provide written updates to members and CIR leaders.

Qualifications

• Eight years or more of organizing experience in the labor movement.
• At least two years’ experience leading or managing staff.
• Ability to manage with labor values and improve as a manager.
• Experience in healthcare organizing is preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with community allies and officials.
• Ability to learn hospital operations, finance and related issues.
• Familiarity with labor law, bargaining, and arbitration processes.
• Strong planning and time management with independent work style.
• Excellent listening, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Inclusive leader who motivates and builds trust within a team.
• Willingness to innovate and involve the team in decision-making.
• Ability to manage conflict and maintain a positive environment.
• Ability to take feedback and coach staff.

Responsibilities

• Represent union interests by ensuring bargaining agreements are implemented and enforced.
• Lead statewide and local direct action campaigns to build union power.
• Provide support for contract campaigns and collective bargaining.
• Supervise Organizers: review weekly work, develop staff plans, coach, and evaluate.
• Participate in recruitment of staff for the UC team.
• Provide written communications and reports to members and CIR staff.
• Assist in new organizing and political campaigns as needed.
• Track and maintain accurate records and databases.
