Job summary

Stantec’s Southern California team is seeking a Deputy Project Manager with Planning experience to join our Environmental Services Practice within the power utility sector. The role involves scheduling, cost control, risk management, and coordinating environmental permitting for utility clients, with opportunities to lead proposals and develop technical documents.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of project management experience; preference for natural resources planning and permitting in California.
  • Experience leading consulting teams of 15+ staff and fostering an inclusive, productive team culture.
  • BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Urban/Regional or Environmental Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, or related field; at least 5 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide land use planning knowledge to support environmental review needs for public and private projects on utility programs.
  • Manage and lead multi-disciplinary project/program teams.
  • Manage environmental permitting efforts, land use planning, and technical study support for electrical transmission and distribution projects.
  • Support environmental impact analyses and CEQA/NEPA work, land use planning, and coordination/management for environmental projects.
  • Provide management support of multi-discipline program or project schedules, deliverables, budgets, staff, and ensure successful completion of program/project scopes of work.
  • Develop effective work-flow processes and communication plans for programs/projects.
  • Identify client needs and programmatic/project initiatives to address delivery risks and challenges.
  • Provide planning and permitting support for electrical transmission and distribution projects.
  • Oversee a multi-disciplinary team to ensure delivery of technical documents and deliverables (biological, cultural, paleontological, waters/wetlands), regulatory compliance (NHPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act), CEQA/NEPA, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and agencies.
  • Mentor a team of high performers through coaching and training in business development, technical report delivery, environmental permitting, and project delivery/management.
  • Assist in developing proposals (scope and budgets) for environmental services tasks, independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
