SALARY: The salary range for this position is $93,495.46 to $136,175.80 for Schedule A, and $93,495.46 to $129,367.01 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

The Office of Attorney Ethics (OAE) acts as the investigative and prosecutorial arm of the Supreme Court of New Jersey in discharging the Supreme Court's constitutional responsibility to supervise and discipline New Jersey attorneys. The mission of the OAE is expressed by the New Jersey Supreme Court in its precedent: to preserve public confidence in the Bar and to protect the public from lawyers who fail to comport with the high professional standards articulated in the New Jersey Rules of Professional Conduct.
When you come to work for the Office of Attorney Ethics, you will join a staff of mission-driven professionals who operate with the highest standards of independence, integrity, fairness and quality service. Our culture is based on our strong belief in the importance of our work to the Supreme Court, the Bar, and the public. This position presents a unique opportunity to be responsible for a case from inception to conclusion; Deputy Ethics Counsel investigate matters from the docketing of a grievance, prosecuting appropriate cases from complaint through oral argument before the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Moreover, due to the broad nature of the work at the OAE, Deputy Ethics Counsel are exposed to a variety of practice areas and have the opportunity to become subject matter leaders in the area of ethics and professional responsibility.
The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking well-rounded attorneys proficient in handling a caseload of investigations, capable of litigating disciplinary hearings and able to prepare well-drafted pleadings and legal briefs. The OAE seeks candidates with highly developed organizational, decision making, interpersonal, and conflict management skills who are adept with legal research and word processing technology. The Deputy Ethics Counsel will direct assigned investigators in the conduct of disciplinary investigations.
REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
Graduation from an American Bar Association-approved law school and three years of experience as an Attorney-at-Law performing legal research and analyzing and evaluating legal documents, rules, regulations, and/or legislation.
Litigation experience including bench or jury trials strongly preferred.
Substitution: One year of experience as a Judicial Law Clerk may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
License: Attorney-at-Law with a plenary license in the State of New Jersey and having Supreme Court Good Standing Status of Active.
