Job description

About OptimaEd:

At OptimaEd, we believe education should be more than a process—it should be a journey of discovery, empowerment, and possibility. That’s why we’re transforming the way the world learns by harnessing the power of immersive technology.

Imagine a world where every student, no matter their background, has access to dynamic immersive coursework, awe-inspiring virtual field trips, and a rich VR content library that makes learning come alive. At OptimaEd, we’re making that vision a reality.

We combine the timeless brilliance of a classical liberal arts and sciences education with groundbreaking technology to create experiences that don’t just teach—they ignite. Whether it’s exploring ancient civilizations, stepping into the heart of a science experiment, or discovering a passion for entrepreneurship, we empower learners to dream bigger and reach higher.

This isn’t just about education—it’s about expanding minds, opening doors, and making the extraordinary accessible to every family, everywhere. Together, we’re reimagining what’s possible, because when we innovate, we inspire.

At OptimaEd, we’re not just preparing students for the future. We’re creating a future worth preparing for. Let’s build it together.

The Opportunity:

Optima On Demand is seeking Part-Time On-Demand Course Facilitators across all subjects and grades 3rd – 12th for our innovative, classical-inspired, mostly-asynchronous platform (a combination of Canvas LMS and the ENGAGE Virtual Reality app). This course-based opportunity is ideal both for aspiring and experienced educators or subject-matter specialists passionate about shaping students using engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned online course content on a cutting-edge online education platform. Curriculum provided, though your innovation is very welcome.

Responsibilities:

  • Grading & Feedback: Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback on assignments, projects, and assessments (within 72 hours of submission).
  • Student & Family Communication: Prompt, engaged, and professional responses to parent and student communications.
  • Office Hours: Offer regularly scheduled virtual office hours or meetings to support student success.
  • VR Sessions: With the supervision of a mentor, lead or observe pre-planned, live VR sessions with students.
  • Data Tracking & Reporting: Monitor student progress, attendance, and engagement (all within the Canvas LMS); submit reports as required.
  • Faculty Collaboration: Attend semi-regular virtual meetings with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Compliance: Adhere to student privacy standards (e.g., FERPA) and ensure accommodations are implemented as needed.
  • Technology Use: Navigate the school’s LMS, VR tools, and other tech systems confidently.
  • Curriculum Improvement: Provide feedback on course content to enhance student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with On-Demand team to develop synchronous activities and requirements.
  • Professional Development: Attend regular workshops about pedagogy, teaching in VR, and other relevant topics.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Enrollment in or completion of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant subject area, or other means of demonstrating subject-matter specialization.
  • Experience: Teaching, tutoring, or facilitating in an online or classroom setting preferred.

Skills:

  • Specialization in the subject(s) you facilitate.
  • Strong written communication skills for grading and email correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.

Attributes:

  • Reliable, professional, and approachable.
  • Commitment to student success and school values.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and families virtually.

Preferred Skills & Specializations

  • Background in classical education is a plus.
  • Familiarity with virtual reality tools or immersive learning platforms (e.g., ENGAGE).

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation based on course and student load.
  • Flexible work-from-home arrangement.
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Supportive school community and robust tech assistance.

Please provide a brief cover letter highlighting your relevant subject-matter experience, teaching philosophy, and any experience with virtual education.

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate, uphold, and promote in daily interactions a commitment to the school’s mission and vision, and the moral character and civic virtue the school embodies.

Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
