Jobtailor in San Francisco is seeking a live journalism editor to monitor breaking news, assign and edit stories, and launch rolling coverage across web, app and social platforms.

You will use audience signals and real-time data to shape coverage, test new formats, and participate in rotating night and weekend shifts, helping expand the reach of Bay Area news to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • At least two years’ experience at a daily newspaper, magazine or web publication or the equivalent as a reporter and/or editor
  • Strong news judgment and instinct for what matters to Bay Area readers
  • Experience with live blogs, rolling coverage, real-time updates or another form of continuous digital journalism
  • Excellent editing, headline-writing and digital-production skills
  • Understanding of how to use real-time data and audience signals to inform editorial decisions
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends and holidays as part of a rotating breaking-news and live-coverage schedule

Responsibilities

  • Help test live storytelling formats, tools and workflows across web, app, alerts, newsletters and social platforms
  • Participate in an editing rotation that may include nights, weekends and holidays
  • Use artificial intelligence tools and automated systems to help drive breaking news discovery and content delivery
