Job summary

The Office of the New York City Comptroller is seeking an Executive Agency Counsel to lead the Tort Unit, oversee pre-litigation settlements, and advise on complex legal matters affecting City agencies.

Candidates must be admitted to the New York State Bar with at least four years of post-admission legal experience, including supervisory responsibilities, and strong writing, negotiation, and management skills.

Qualifications

• Preferred skills include supervising attorneys or professional staff, strong management, writing, verbal and analytical abilities.
• Ability to draft clear memoranda and interact with management, government officials, attorneys, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Advise and assist the Director in managing all functions of the Tort Unit and oversee day-to-day operations.
• Supervise Tort Division Chiefs and Claim Examiners and manage pre-litigation settlement processes.
• Oversee procurement of professional services and monitor high-exposure claims.
• Coordinate with law department and fiscal services and draft memoranda on critical issues.
