Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern California is seeking a Deputy Director for Preparedness to strengthen regional and local teams, oversee readiness, and support response and recovery activities.

You will lead training programs, coordinate with councils, preposition equipment, and manage grants while maintaining external partnerships to ensure timely disaster response across Southern California.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years experience in emergency management.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management or a related field – Graduate Degree preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Teams and developing PowerPoint presentations, drafting training materials and facilitating training sessions.
• Experience with facilitating emergency simulations.
• Knowledge of Southern California human services is preferred.
• The ideal candidate must have a clean driver’s license, and the ability to do field work in various settings.
• Travel throughout the Southern California area – including Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego Counties– will be required.
• Experience working in disaster recovery is preferred and computer proficiency is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all divisional preparedness activities and train local emergency response teams.
• Provide technical guidance, support, and tools to regional and local teams for preparedness and contingency planning.
• Serve as a divisional emergency management trainer, including exercises and online courses.
• Review and maintain the Emergency Volunteer Database information.
• Develop messaging and strategies to raise awareness of Emergency Disaster Services.
• Coordinate with advisory councils for community involvement with quarterly visits or calls.
• Preposition equipment and supplies for maximum effectiveness.
• Assist with preparedness grants management and external relationships.
• Provide information to PIO/PR staff for news releases and media.
• Provide supervision as needed; assist with response and recovery activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
