Job summary

Story County seeks a Deputy Director to provide high-level administrative, strategic and operational support to the Conservation Director. This role helps manage conservation, recreation, and education programs, participates in strategic planning, budgeting, staff supervision, and community engagement.

The Deputy Director oversees day-to-day operations, supports project planning, grant development, and reporting, and collaborates with county officials and partners to advance natural resources

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent.
• 3–5 years in leadership roles within public administration or conservation.
• Strong knowledge of conservation principles and public programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in directing the conservation program staff and services.
• Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting for the department.
• Develop, monitor, and manage operations and capital budgets; prepare agendas and reports.
• Lead grant proposals, administration, and reimbursement processes.
• Coordinate with partner agencies and county officials to deliver programs and events.
• Provide leadership in park and resource management initiatives and staff development.
