Job summary

State of Missouri seeks a communications professional to lead our Office of Communications activities in Jefferson City. You will manage external and internal messaging, edit content, craft speaking points, and coordinate events while mentoring colleagues and ensuring confidentiality.

You will work with agency leaders to deliver high-quality communications across channels and maintain AP style standards in all materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field with 2–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication; audience-minded.
  • Knowledge of AP style and professionalism in internal/external communications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee department website and social media strategy across platforms.
  • Plan and assist production team with project design and development.
  • Support and lead Office of Communications team members.
  • Research material and prepare speaking points for agency officials.
  • Develop, edit and write external and internal communications.
  • Help plan events such as Earth Day and Missouri State Fair.
  • Serve as back up for Communications Director for daily duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position will be in the Office of the Director at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri.

  • Oversee the department’s website, social media strategy across all platforms, and internal communications training.
  • Assign, plan and assist production team with project design and development.
  • Support and lead team members within the Office of Communications.
  • Research material and prepare speaking points for agency officials.
  • Develop, edit and write external and internal communications.
  • Work within a committee to plan special events, such as Earth Day and Missouri State Fair.
  • Serve as back up for the Communications Director for various necessary daily job duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, along with 2-4 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)

  • Ability to operate in a discreet environment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
Equivalent To Those Typically Gained By
  • Four or more years of office or related communications experience including one year at an advanced level position.
