The City of Martinsville’s Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is seeking a Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney to prosecute criminal cases in Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile Domestic Relations Court. The Deputy reports directly to the Commonwealth’s Attorney and will supervise attorneys and staff.

Requirements include a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, 4 years of licensed practice, Virginia State Bar membership, and extensive trial experience (bench and jury).

Qualifications

• 4 years of licensed practicing legal experience
• Juris Doctor from accredited Law School
• Member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar
• Extensive trial experience, including both bench and jury trials
• Experience with management and administration
• Applicants must be skilled in legal research and writing
• The successful candidate will undergo a criminal background check and must have a valid driver's license with responsible driving history

Responsibilities

• Carrying a full case load and prosecuting criminal cases in Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile Domestic Relations Court
• Supervising attorneys and staff
• Advising Law Enforcement on legal matters
• Representing the Commonwealth on civil matters that are the responsibility of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office
