SALARY GRADE: Flat Rated
The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, New Hanover County, seeks an individual to serve as Deputy Clerk in the North Carolina legal system. Deputy Clerks perform clerical and administrative work in a Clerk of Superior Court office, involving public interaction, processing filings, continuances, judgments, and maintaining case documentation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
New hires may be paid above the minimum rate based on education and experience in a North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court office.
Knowledge of NC statutes, judicial policies, civil and juvenile proceedings, case processing systems (VCAP, JWISE, eWarrants, eCourts, Odyssey), and office procedures is required.
Skills in basic math, active listening, public interaction, verbal and written communication, data entry, and MS Office are essential.
The ability to read legal documents, interact diplomatically, multi-task, adapt, meet deadlines, organize files, work independently, maintain confidentiality, and provide procedural info without legal advice is necessary.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 18 years old, with preference for residents of New Hanover County. Experience in a courthouse or law office is a plus.
