The City of Elizabethtown is seeking a highly responsible, salaried municipal accountant to maintain general and subsidiary accounts, prepare financial statements, and manage funds under the supervision of the Finance Director and City Treasurer. The role is new with potential promotion to City Treasurer by mid-2027.
The ideal candidate will have a college degree in accounting or finance, 5+ years of financial management experience, and CPA certification.
This is a highly responsible, salaried position involving technical accounting work in the maintenance of varied municipal accounts. Work involves responsibility for performing accounting duties in maintaining control and subsidiary accounts including fund and special assessment accounts, in preparing financial statements and reports, and in depositing and disbursing municipal funds. Work requires the application of accounting skills and considerable judgement and discretion. The employee works under the general supervision of the Finance Director and City Treasurer; and work is reviewed through periodic reports, individual conferences, and independent audit of accounts. This is a newly created position with the intention of working and training with the City Treasurer and Finance Director. The position is intended to be promoted to City Treasurer upon her retirement mid-2027.
College graduate with degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
5+ years’ experience in financial management and operations
5+ years of accounting experience in a municipal government or related position.
Certified Public Accountant or other related accounting certifications.
