Job summary

The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY) seeks a Full‑time Deputy Chief Inspector in the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Reporting directly to the Chief Inspector, the successful candidate will supervise inspectors, review field inspections, and coordinate with other agencies to ensure compliance with fire codes and life-safety standards.

Five years of full‑time experience in explosives safety, fire protection, or related fields are required, with an option for education/experience substitution.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time experience in or more of: explosives/flamables manufacturing or storage; safety standards for such materials; inspection of premises to detect fire/explosion hazards; design, installation, or testing of sprinkler systems or fire protection equipment.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise and train lower-level Fire Protection Inspectors within the CDA Unit.
• Review all field work conducted by Inspectors; cover and witness inspections as needed.
• Conduct field performance evaluations and coordinate with other agencies and FDNY units on code interpretation for leadership.
