Job summary

Smiths Detection in Pine Brook, NJ seeks an advanced Technical Engineer for depot service support. You will create test fixtures, diagnose electronic/mechanical failures, and lead technician training to ensure consistent quality in reworks and repairs.

You will work from schematics, develop technical procedures, and maintain fixtures and inventory while collaborating with the depot team. Travel to new sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Technical Degree desirable or extensive electronics and mechanical experience.
• Strong electronics service experience
• Strong manual dexterity with small hand tools
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Presentation skills for training
• Strong technical problem solving skills
• Knowledge of advanced electronics and mechanical assemblies
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics
• Diplomatic, tactful and team oriented
• ISO/Continuous Improvement/Lean experience a plus
• MS Office proficiency with ability to produce technical reports; knowledge of software/firmware for electronics; Python/PLC/FPGA desirable

Responsibilities

• Create Test Fixtures to ensure full Quality Control of Reworked Parts
• Diagnose and resolve electronic related failures
• Work with Technicians to support resolve issues and identify best practices
• Produce Fixtures from Schematics and Technical Drawings
• Develop and write Technical Procedures for Fixture use
• Provide regular maintenance of the Fixtures to ensure working order
• Provide data summaries as requested
• Lead the technical training effort of depot technicians
• Identify replacement EOL components for Rework processes
• Develop new service procedures for assemblies and components
• Evolve new service procedures with emphasis on Quality Control
• Complete all data entry and documentation for Service
• Maintain Service Inventory and collaborate with team
