Job summary

Alation, Inc. is hiring a Deployment Strategist I to keep customer deployments moving, coordinate with account teams, and translate requirements into actionable plans across Product, Engineering, and Support.

This role blends technical diligence with business storytelling in a fully remote US context. You will drive value attainment by tracking open questions, RFIs, and blockers, delivering clear updates, and contributing knowledge to our knowledge base and community resources.

Qualifications

• Experience in data and AI space with exposure to data governance, databases, or analytics.
• 1–3 years in a technical, customer-facing role (support, consulting, analytics, IT, solutions).
• Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and business audiences in writing or live.

Responsibilities

• Keep evaluations moving by partnering with Account Executives and Deployment Strategists until all questions are resolved.
• Keep customers informed with proactive status updates and owner assignments.
• Support the account team on RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
• Translate customer requirements into clear, evidence-backed feedback for Product and Engineering.
• Walk users through features with working demos to illustrate capabilities.
• Contribute learnings to the knowledge base and Alation Community.

Job Description:

As a Deployment Strategist I, you are the person our customers and account teams count on to keep things moving: tracking every open issue, chasing down the answer, and making sure nobody is left wondering what happens next. This role is responsible for driving business value attainment across the Alation customer base.

What You'll Do

You'll spend your day in the space between the customer, the account team, Support, and Product.

• Keep evaluations moving. Partner with your Account Executives and Deployment Strategists to hold momentum through the sales cycle. Track every open technical question, blocker, and requirement across active opportunities: feature questions, enablement needs, environment issues, security and architecture follow-ups, and drive each one to a clear answer before it stalls the deal.

• Keep everyone informed. Send the update before it's asked for. Customers and account teams should always know the status, next step, and task owner.

• Supporting your peers. Work with the account team on RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs

• Close the loop with Product. Translate customer requirements into clear, evidence-backed feedback for Product and Engineering.

• Show customers the way. Walk users through features, run focused solution demos, and answer the "can Alation do this?" question with a working example.

• Make the knowledge reusable. Contribute what you learn to our knowledge base and to the Alation Community, so the next person doesn't start from zero.

What You Bring

• Follow-through you can point to. A history of owning a messy, multi-party problem and staying on it until it was resolved — in any setting: work, internship, research, volunteering, a side project.

• Clear writing and sharp presentation skills. You can go deep on technical detail with a technical audience, then explain the same thing in business terms to a business audience; in writing or live, without losing either room.

• Comfort in front of people. You can explain something technical to a business audience without hiding behind jargon.

• Organization at volume. Nothing falls off your list when there are thirty things on it.

• Knowledge about data and AI space. Some exposure to AI, databases, analytics, data integration, or cloud platforms; coursework, certifications, internships, and self-teaching all count.

• Technical Knowledge. 1–3 years in a technical, customer-facing role (support, consulting, analytics, IT, solutions)

• Technical Stack. Any of the following: RDBMS, Lakehouses, BI, SQL, REST APIs, AI.

• Exposure to data governance, data space, and/or AI.

• Curiosity and creativity. You're the kind of person who keeps asking why until you understand the customer's real problem, then gets inventive about solving it.

Practical details

• Travel: Occasional travel within your sales territory to customer sites and marketing events. Expect this to grow as you take on workshops and proof-of-value work.

• Who you'll work with: Account Executives, Customer Solutions Team, Technical Support, Product, and Engineering.

Compensation Pay Range listed below is target base salary. This role includes variable compensation as a 75/25 split. On-target-earning (OTE) is specific to the US and is ~$93,000 - $125,000.

Compensation Pay Range:

$68,443.00 - $92,398.00

Salary Information

The base salary range is specific to the United States. The salary of the final candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, work location, specialty and training. If the final candidate has a different level of experience, the base salary target range may be lower or higher than what is published.
