Job description

Summary: The Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing preventive and periodontal-based dental treatment. They play an integral role in managing a patient’s oral care by gathering accurate information to properly treat the patient. The hygienist should be a positive influencer through education based on professional standards and serve as a compassionate liaison to the patient while upholding the company’s mission and vision. They should be goal-oriented and self-motivated, with a high level of drive.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Take quality radiographs, operate an intra-oral camera, and manage electronic records.
• Deliver thorough patient care with effective communication, personal attention, and a gentle, caring manner.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene tailored to their periodontal condition.
• Assess and plan appropriate dental hygiene care, including prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, debridement, periodontal maintenance, and adjunct services.
• Perform dental hygiene procedures using hand and mechanical scalers with high technical skill.
• Conduct general oral health screenings, review relevant medical history, and communicate findings to the Dentist. Preheat patients on treatment plans for predictability outlined by the doctor.
• Accurately document patient records and complete database information to assist the Dentist in treatment planning.
• Provide topical anesthetic and monitor nitrous oxide under the general supervision of the Dentist.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices.
• Pursue personal professional growth through training and continuing education to maintain licensure.
• Set up and prepare dental equipment and instruments in accordance with regulations and office guidelines.
• Report all procedures accurately and promptly with proper documentation in the patient management system.
• Maintain a clean work environment and sterilize dental equipment to meet OSHA and CDC standards.
• Adhere to confidentiality laws, including HIPAA, regarding patient records.
• Communicate effectively with the Dentist and foster teamwork through professional behavior.
• Support practice revenue goals by utilizing schedules effectively.
• Follow and uphold the company’s policies, clinical standards, and commitment to outstanding patient service.
