A. T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) on the St. Louis campus is hiring a full-time Patient Services Advocate to handle patient registration, demographics, fee determination, and collections, serving as a liaison between dental students and patients.

The role requires 2 years of healthcare and customer service experience, strong computer skills, and knowledge of third-party reimbursement, with attention to HIPAA compliance and accurate record keeping.

Qualifications

2 years experience in a health care setting or related field; dental experience strongly preferred.
2 years experience in customer service.
Knowledge of third party reimbursement.
Good computer skills including the use of word processing and e-mail software. A test will be given.
Good oral and written communication, customer service, organizational and mathematical skills.
Capable of making bank deposits.
Ability to use a 10 key calculator and credit card machine.
Ability to accurately register and interview clients.
Ability to read and interpret materials.
Ability to use initiative; be detail oriented, and flexible.

Responsibilities

Interview patients to document demographic information and maintain appropriate information in patients’ chart as needed.
Review HIPAA policies with patients.
For uninsured/self-pay patients, determine fees based on sliding fee scale and collect fees due.
Verify and document third party coverage; collect copays due.
Refer patients to resources to apply for funding.
Use electronic schedule to notify clinic when patient is ready to be taken back.
Review patient checkout documents and schedule follow-ups.
Act as liaison between dental students and patients and their families.
Handle incoming patient calls for dental students and other providers.
Make efforts to fill broken or cancelled appointments based on payer mix.
Record all no shows, cancellations, and late arrivals.
Confirm all appointments and Medicaid, verify insurance and sliding fee scale status in advance and inform patients of cost of care.
Pull end-of-day reports to ensure encounters closed and notes entered.
Perform other duties as assigned.
