Job summary

CoreCivic in Farmville is seeking a Dental Assistant who supports the dentist in inmate/resident care within an institutional setting. You will prepare instruments for procedures, assist with treatments, and maintain sterilization and sanitation of the dental area.

The position requires at least one year of dental assisting experience, a completed training program certificate, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. Applicants must be 18 or older.

Qualifications

• Certificate or completion of a dental assistant training program meeting state Dental Practice Act criteria.

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist with treatment of inmates/residents, set up instruments for each patient and prepare impressions/filling materials.
• Sterilize the dental unit and instruments after each treatment and replace instruments for the next patient.
• Control medication, syringes and other dental supplies; inventory as required by procedures.
• Keep equipment and work area clean; use proper sanitation methods.
• Review dental services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of services.
• Review inmates' status for completion of all necessary interventions and treatments.

The incumbent should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job performance requirements.

• Assistant dentist with the treatment of inmates/residents by setting up all instruments for each patient and treatment to be rendered and preparing impressions and filling materials.
• After each treatment, sterilize the dental unit and instruments used and replace instruments prior to the next patient treatment.
• Control medication, syringes and other dental supplies or equipment; inventory as required by established procedures
• Keep equipment and work area clean; utilize appropriate sanitation methods.
• Review dental services provided to prevent the inappropriate use or duplication of services.
• Review status of inmates/residents for completion of all necessary intervention and treatments and services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent or greater.
• One year of dental assisting experience is required.
• Certificate or evidence of completion of a dental assistant training program or other requirements that meet the criteria of the Dental Practice Act in the state of practice, in compliance with contract or applicable statutes is required.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
