Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless is seeking a Part-time/Full-time Dental Assistant Apprentice to join our team. Ideal candidates will have a background in customer service or dental settings and a willingness to work in clinics serving underserved populations.

We may cover dental assistant training costs in exchange for a 2-year employment commitment. Our DA team rotates between outreach in the field and clinic-based care, operating under a harm reduction model that meets patients where

Qualifications

• Background in customer service or dental roles (MA, CNA, DA, etc).
• Ability to thrive in a complex healthcare setting.
• Bilingual or Spanish speaking is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist dental team in clinic and outreach settings.
• Support procedures under supervision and ensure patient comfort.
• Participate in training and complete commitment for 2 years after training.

AHCH provides a distinctive continuum of integrated care through outreach and site-based services to address the health-related causes and consequences of homelessness. Our ideal candidate would be a team player and have previous experience in a clinic or hospital setting with underserved populations. Compassion for and an understanding of the wide variety of issues for those experiencing homelessness is a must.

Our DA team works in rotating schedules doing Outreach work in the field and in our Clinic. We work from a harm reduction model and believe in meeting people where they are at. We view patient care holistically and work in a multidisciplinary fashion to connect our patients to various resources within our organization and without. Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) offers a unique opportunity where we may cover Dental Assistant Training costs for interested candidates in exchange for a 2-year employment commitment, with a prorated arrangement if the commitment is not fulfilled.

We comply with all OSHA and CDC guidelines regarding PPE and have various procedures in place to safeguard employees.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Background in customer service or dental (MA, CNA, DA, etc)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Flexibility to work with multiple providers
• Ability to thrive in a complex healthcare setting

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited dental assistant program with current X-ray certification
• Experience working with underserved populations or people experiencing homelessness
• Knowledge of harm reduction and trauma informed philosophies
• Bilingual or Spanish Speaking
