Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) seeks a full-time Dental Assistant to join a compassionate clinic serving people experiencing homelessness. The DA team works in rotating schedules, provides outreach and clinic care, and supports patients with a harm-reduction approach.

The ideal candidate has clinic or hospital experience with underserved populations, a background in dental assisting, and a commitment to holistic patient care within a multidisciplinary team.

Job description

Since 1985, Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless has dedicated its mission exclusively to providing services to people experiencing homelessness. AHCH provides a distinctive continuum of integrated care through outreach and site-based services to address the health-related causes and consequences of homelessness. Our vision is to live in a world that is just and without homelessness. We believe that homelessness is an issue that can be solved through access to quality health care, adequate and affordable housing, and a living wage.

Are you looking for a career change or to expand your skill set? We may be the right fit for you! We are currently looking for Full-time (40 hours per week) Dental Assistant to join our team. Our ideal candidate would be a team player and have previous experience in a clinic or hospital setting with underserved populations. Compassion for and an understanding of the wide variety of issues for those experiencing homelessness is a must.

Our DA team works in rotating schedules doing Outreach work in the field and in our Clinic. We work from a harm reduction model and believe in meeting people where they are at. We view patient care holistically and work in a multidisciplinary fashion to connect our patients to various resources within our organization and without. Our team is very passionate about public health and our population.

Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) offers a unique opportunity where we may cover Dental Assistant Training costs for interested candidates in exchange for a 2-year employment commitment, with a prorated arrangement if the commitment is not fulfilled.

We comply with all OSHA and CDC guidelines regarding PPE and have various procedures in place to safeguard employees.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Background in customer service or dental (MA, CNA, DA, etc)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Flexibility to work with multiple providers
• Ability to thrive in a complex healthcare setting

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited dental assistant program with current X-ray certification
• Experience working with underserved populations or people experiencing homelessness
• Knowledge of harm reduction and trauma informed philosophies
• Bilingual or Spanish Speaking
