Job Description

Position title: Dental Assistant

Purpose: The Dental Assistant assists the Dentist(s) in patient clinical procedures and provides treatment, assistance, and comfort to patients. The Dental Assistant performs operational and clerical functions relating to the office and patient visits.

Essential Functions

1. Provides outstanding customer service with the patient as the #1 priority; partners with team members, and resolves patient complaints, concerns, and questions timely and successfully.
2. Fully assists the Dentist in treating patients through chairside assisting as needed.
3. Takes and develops dental radiographs.
4. Records patient's medical history; takes blood pressure and pulse.
5. Serves as an infection control officer, develops infection control protocols, and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
6. Helps patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
7. Provides patients with instructions for oral care following procedures.
8. Teaches patients oral hygiene strategies to improve or maintain oral health.
9. Prepares operatory setup and breakdown.
10. Sterilizes instruments.
11. Uses company dental software, HRIS, Microsoft Suite, and other internet tools effectively.
12. Understands and uses company’s timekeeping system accurately; gains pre-approval for overtime; reports discrepancies immediately.
13. Maintains facilities and equipment following OSHA and safety regulations.
14. Completes continuing education for certifications like Dental Assisting, X-ray, and Nitrous.
15. Travels as necessary for business functions and training.

Nonessential Functions

1. Orders supplies following office procedures and budget.
2. Performs additional tasks to meet office goals.
