DEPARTMENT: Post-Doctoral Graduate, Advanced Educational Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics

SUPERVISED BY: Orthodontics Business Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Hourly

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The position supports orthodontic residents and clinical faculty with basic orthodontic dental assisting, equipment sterilization, and coordination of care with residents and front desk needs. We seek a highly motivated dental assistant. Prior experience is preferred but training is available. This role offers skill expansion with orthodontic training if needed. Ideal candidates are dependable, eager to learn, and passionate about patient care.

Responsibilities/Duties

  1. Deliver service-excellence daily to ensure smooth operations with patients, public, residents, faculty, managers, and co-workers.
  2. Mix dental compounds, prepare orthodontic treatment items, and assist with bonding and debonding procedures.
  3. Prepare orthodontic brackets, assist in patient appointments, and ensure proper documentation for insurance purposes.
  4. Pour and finish cast models or prepare e-models.
  5. Expose and develop dental radiographs (intra-oral, panorex, cephalometric).
  6. Assist with placing/removing orthodontic appliances and taking full records including 3-D scans and photographs.
  7. Prepare patient treatment setups, instruments, and supplies for daily schedules.
  8. Sterilize instruments and maintain sterilization records.
  9. Conduct microbial testing of sterilization equipment and maintain logs.
  10. Participate in performance improvement activities and uphold ethics policies.
  11. Oversee maintenance and repair of clinic equipment, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  12. Maintain instruments and equipment, ensuring timely maintenance.
  13. Assist with research projects and incorporate patient records into orthodontic software.
  14. Prepare reports, presentations, and inventory tracking using Google Docs and Microsoft Office.
  15. Cover front desk as needed, including patient intake and registration.
  16. Coordinate payments with billing personnel to ensure accurate patient accounts.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Pennsylvania Dental Radiograph Certification.
  3. Excellent communication skills and team work ability.
  4. Ability to meet attendance and scheduling requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. High motivation and organizational skills.
  2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
