Job summary

Anne Arundel County Department of Health is seeking a Dental Assistant to support licensed dentists and hygienists in delivering primary dental care. You will maintain sterilization, prepare treatment rooms, take x-rays, impressions, and perform lab tasks while assisting in procedures to ensure patient comfort and safety.

This full-time county contract position requires a high school diploma, two years of experience, and a valid Dental Radiation Technologist License with current CPR.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in direct provision of primary dental services.
• Maintain hygiene and sterilization protocols to prevent contamination.
• Prepare treatment rooms, take x-rays, impressions, and perform lab duties.
• Assist dentist with procedures, including suction, isolation, and patient comfort.
• Answer phones, schedule appointments, input demographics in Eaglesoft, confirm Medicaid via EVS.
• Greet patients and maintain dental supply inventories; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

• Assist the licensed dentist(s), dental hygienist(s), and the Dental Program Manager in the direct provision of primary care dental services in order to enhance the dental health care provided to our clients and to promote oral health care.
• Requires assisting dentists providing dental care to qualifying Anne Arundel County residents.
• Must be able to maintain appropriate hygiene and sterilization protocols to prevent contamination and spread of infection; prepare the treatment rooms; take x-rays; take impressions; perform laboratory duties; assist dentist with procedures by aspirating oral cavity, isolating teeth, retracting lips, cheeks, tongue and flaps; take vital signs; provide basic oral hygiene instructions; record and maintain patient histories and dental procedures.
• Requires answering phones, scheduling appointments, inputting demographic information using the Patterson Eaglesoft Dental Program, confirming Medical Assistance coverage using EVS, greeting patients, assisting in maintaining adequate dental supply inventories, and any other dental duty as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED).

Experience

• Two years assisting a dentist in the performance of dental care.

License Or Certification

• Dental Radiation Technologist License from the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners (MSBDE).
• Current CPR.

Notes

• Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license and have reliable transportation, as this position will travel between North County and Annapolis Health Center.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

• Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, Ability to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish.
