Group: A support group for care partners of family members with Lewy body dementia (LBD). Our Lewy Body Dementia Caregivers Support Group began in January 2024 with in-person meetings. This group is flourishing. Now we are preparing to offer an additional monthly meeting via Zoom, and we need an additional Facilitator.
Location: Online/Zoom meetings one evening per month (Pacific Time Zone).Hosted by the Susan and Charles Berghoff Foundation (a 501c3 nonprofit, www.berghoff-foundation.org ).
Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Dementia Caregiver Support Group Facilitator to lead an online support group for family caregivers of individuals living with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). The facilitator will provide emotional support, guidance and informational resources to caregivers, helping them navigate the challenges associated with LBD caregiving. The facilitator will create a safe, open environment for participants to connect, share caregiving experiences, and learn about community resources for caregivers.
Key Responsibilities:
·Facilitate a 1.5 hour Zoom support group once per month for caregivers, fostering an environment of trust and open communication.
·Provide empathetic listening and offer emotional support to caregivers, helping them cope with the stress, frustration, and emotional challenges of caring for a loved one with Lewy Body Dementia.
·Share information and resources related to dementia, caregiving techniques, coping strategies, and self-care practices to enhance caregivers’ well-being.
·Encourage group members to share their experiences, listening actively and providing them with feedback or suggestions to foster a sense of community.
·Create a safe space that is confidential and non-judgmental, allowing caregivers to discuss sensitive topics.
·Manage group dynamics to ensure all members feel heard, respected, and supported.
·Coordinate with the Susan and Charles Berghoff Foundation on the occasional participation of guest speakers (e.g., medical professionals, estate planning attorneys, social workers) to provide caregivers with relevant learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
·Availability to participate in monthly Zoom meetings approximately 1.5 hours in length. Light email/phone communication with Support Group Administrator/SCBF Executive Director between monthly meetings.
·Experience in dementia care and knowledge of community resources for dementia is preferred.
·Experience leading and/or facilitating support groups, with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
·Ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion while providing emotional support to caregivers participating in the group.
·Familiarity with dementia in general and Lewy Body Dementia in particular, including the challenges faced by family caregivers.
·Strong communication skills with the ability to actively listen and provide thoughtful responses, fostering open dialogue.
