OBJECTIVE:The delivery driver is responsible for the timely and safe delivery of materials to customers and pickup of materials when needed from vendors and customers. The driver coordinates his activity to achieve optimum productivity and works carefully to meet or exceed customer expectations. The driver is competent and friendly in order to create a good impression of Ashby Lumber. The driver is responsible for safely transporting company and customer goods. The driver’s efforts to deliver and pick up goods in a timely and safe manner affect the success of the entire organization, ensure customer satisfaction, and support business growth.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Customer InteractionProvide excellent customer service on all deliveriesAlways be professional in your contact with customers and their employees, as well as vendorsKnow how to handle an upset or angry customerDeliveryBe able to sit/drive and accomplish all motions used in driving a large truck for extended periods-trip lengths vary greatly, but up to 6 hours per day will be spent behind the wheelPossess a current driver’s license, clean Motor Vehicle Record, and be approved by our insurance - if approval is withdrawn for any reason, employment with Ashby Lumber may ceaseMonitor and ensure vehicles are loaded properly and accuratelyBe familiar with surrounding area and be able to read a map/guideHave a positive and upbeat attitude, even in heavy traffic and unusual driving conditionsAssist and/or oversee the loading and/or unloading of productsBe able to deal with a fast-paced environment, subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activityRemain in communication with Dispatch as needed throughout the dayInform Dispatch of any problems that arise at the delivery siteWorking overtime to handle the flow of business is mandatory for all delivery drivers; weekend overtime will be worked on a rotating basisSafetyHave excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic lawsComplete Driver’s Vehicle Inspection dailyPass random DOT alcohol/drug screeningOperate vehicle safely in a manner consistent with Ashby Lumber Driving PolicyReport all accidents in accordance with Ashby Lumber Driver Accident Reporting PolicyAttend safety meetings monthlySKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) based on state locationProper Class CDL with valid Air Brake and HazMat Endorsement (as required)ABC and OSHA approved Powered Industrial Truck certification (company training provided)A good driving recordCurrent & valid medical card (required in some states for non CDL)Excellent verbal and written communication skillsPossession of strong organizational skillsAbility to work independently on assigned tasks and accept direction on given assignmentsAble to work in a cooperative manner as part of a teamMaintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health/safety and company policies and proceduresPossession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)6 months to 1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experiencePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Sit/drive up to 6-7 hours per dayMust be able to lift/carry 100 lbs. occasionallyMust be able to lift 75 lbs. repetitivelyMust be able to push/pull 50-250 lbs.Vertical and horizontal reaching is requiredAll mobility motions are required (standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing)Full range of motion and physical activity occurring randomly for 8-10 hours per dayThis job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed.
