General Function

As a Delicatessen Clerk, this position is responsible for handling food safely, maintaining a clean work area, operating registers, and providing courteous customer service.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director, Delicatessen Department Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers in various ways.
• Answer calls and take customer orders at the deli counter.
• Work as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards.
• Manage food supply, prepare and replenish products.
• Operate registers and handle payments.
• Adhere to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Report to work on time as scheduled.

Secondary Duties

• Wash dishes, order supplies, deliver orders, price products, and assist in other store areas as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow instructions and perform basic arithmetic.
• Less than high school education or equivalent with up to six months of related experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual acuity and physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to dust, noise, equipment, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Telephone, copier, computer, kitchen utensils, slicer, scales, delivery van, and other tools.

Contacts

Daily contact with customers, the public, and regulatory agencies.

Starting hourly wage: $15.00 - $18.75 depending on experience.
