General Function

As a Delicatessen Clerk, this position will handle food safely, maintain a clean work area, operate registers, and provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director, Delicatessen Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers in various ways.
• Greet customers and learn their names when possible.
• Assist customers with product location, loading, and special requests.
• Answer phone calls and take orders at the deli counter.
• Work with team members to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper sanitation of the work area.
• Ensure food freshness, prepare and replenish products, and manage inventory.
• Operate registers and handle payments.
• Adhere to personal hygiene, dress codes, and company policies.
• Arrive on time for scheduled shifts.

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, order supplies, deliver orders, and price products.
• Assist in other store areas and perform special projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics

• Follow verbal and demonstrated instructions; request supplies as needed.
• Perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Education And Experience

Less than high school or equivalent, with up to six months of related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Exposure to dust, noise, hazards, temperature extremes, and chemicals in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Telephone, fax, copier, intercom, computer, calculator, kitchen utensils, slicer, scales, delivery van, and other tools.

Daily contact with the public, customers, and regulatory agencies.
