Job Title: Delicatessen Clerk

Department: Delicatessen

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

This position involves handling food safely, maintaining a clean work area, operating registers, and providing courteous customer service to enhance the shopping experience.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director, Department Manager. No positions report to this role.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, efficient customer service; greet and assist customers; learn and use customers’ names when possible.
• Assist customers with product location, heavy lifting, and special requests.
• Answer calls promptly and take customer orders.
• Work as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Review and prepare orders, ensure food freshness, and maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards.
• Manage inventory, restock, and handle payments accurately.
• Adhere to personal hygiene, dress code, and company policies.
• Report to work on time as scheduled.

Secondary Duties

• Wash dishes, order supplies, deliver orders, price products, and assist in other store areas as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Follow verbal and demonstrated instructions; request supplies; perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent; up to six months of related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Exposure to dust, noise, hazards, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Telephone, fax, copier, intercom, computer, calculator, kitchen utensils, wrapping machines, trash compactors, slicer, scales, delivery van, pallet jack, knives.
