Job Title: Delicatessen Clerk

General Function

As a Delicatessen Clerk, this position will be responsible for handling food safely and maintaining a clean work area. You will operate the department registers, process payments, and provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; Delicatessen Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
• Greet customers with a smile and learn their names when possible.
• Assist customers by escorting them, securing products, loading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
• Answer calls promptly and assist with customer orders at the deli counter.
• Work as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Review and prepare orders, ensure food freshness, and replenish stock as needed.
• Operate registers and process payments accurately.
• Maintain cleanliness and adhere to sanitation standards.
• Report to work on time and follow company policies.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, order supplies, deliver orders, price products, and assist in other store areas as needed.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Characteristics

• Ability to follow instructions and request supplies as needed.
• Basic arithmetic skills involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, with up to six months of related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual acuity and physical activities such as climbing, standing, lifting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to dust, noise, hazards, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Telephone, fax, copier, computer, kitchen utensils, slicer, scales, delivery van, and other tools.

Daily contact with customers, the public, and regulatory agencies.

Starting hourly wage: $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience.
