DELI CLERK

PURPOSE STATEMENT: To maximize sales and profit in the Deli Department through courteous customer service.

SIGNIFICANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Greet all customers, respond to questions/requests, and explain store policies courteously.
2. Wrap, package, and sell products such as sandwiches, pizza, salads, sliced fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese, desserts, party trays, garnishes, samples, and fried foods.
3. Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales.
4. Review the communication board daily for updates and follow posted guidelines for sampling and announcements.
5. Prepare and organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receiving merchandise, unload trucks, verify deliveries, inspect for shortages/damage, and code-date items.
6. Adhere to all health codes and regulations; clean department areas and equipment safely.
7. Transport cases to sales floor, cooler, or freezer, open cases, and stock products in designated areas, ensuring freshness and proper rotation.
8. Ensure safety by practicing store safety rules and reporting hazards immediately; clean up broken containers and packing materials.
9. Operate equipment like balers, case cutters, pallet jacks, and others safely, following safety requirements and restraints.
10. Evaluate product quality, move damaged or unsalable items, and mark down prices as needed.
11. Check temperatures four times daily and record readings.
12. Report out-of-stock conditions to the manager.
13. Stock and replenish display cases and shelves throughout the store.
14. Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned to ensure product availability and customer service during peak periods.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

1. Basic math skills and ability to count.
2. Ability to give and receive complex verbal instructions.
3. Stable work and educational history.
4. Ability to read and write English, including instructions, labels, and reports.
5. Judgment in merchandise placement, display, and quality assessment.
6. Ability to open cases and stock without damaging products.
7. Ability to clearly price and label products.
8. Good interpersonal communication skills.

PREFERRED:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Prior related experience.
3. Experience operating equipment like slicers, balers, fryers, etc., with age restrictions as applicable.

TASKS OF THE JOB

This position generally requires:

1. Mobility to perform receiving, stocking, and display building tasks within 100 yards.

• Work on tile or concrete up to 8 hours.

1. Lift up to 50 lbs. from 6 inches to overhead.
2. Move up to 50 lbs. over 15 yards.
3. Handle signage, open cases, and sort merchandise.
4. Reach, grasp, twist, climb, stock, and perform various physical tasks as described.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Inside work with temperature variations, dust, humidity, and noise from equipment.
