Job summary

Kroger Family of Companies is seeking a Deli/Bakery Department Lead to oversee daily operations, ensure safety and quality, and deliver outstanding customer service.

You will train staff, manage inventory, schedule shifts, and execute merchandising plans while controlling costs and maintaining department standards. This role requires strong communication, basic math skills, food safety knowledge, and the ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
• Current food handlers permit once employed.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, safety and food safety regulations and company guidelines.
• Train and develop associates on performance of their job including inventory and scheduling.
• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Communicate department information to associates.
• Establish performance goals for department and empower associates to meet targets.
• Develop scheduling to manage customer volume.
• Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome and valued.
• Operate deli/bakery equipment according to guidelines.
• Prepare foods and follow temperature logs.
• Develop and implement a department business plan.
• Implement merchandising promotional plans.
• Keep staff current with ads and promotions.
• Monitor and control expenses for the department.
• Report all safety risks and incidents.
• Perform essential functions with or without accommodation.
