Job summary

IDT in Arlington, VA is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Warfare Systems team. Based in Arlington, VA or Mount Laurel, NJ, you will modernize legacy weapon system software into a microservices-based stack for cloud-native and tactical-edge deployments.

You will design and implement software in C/C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java, work on AI/ML data analytics, cybersecurity, and real-time testing, and collaborate with DoD customers to meet stringent requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 0-5 years of professional experience.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Familiarity with combat system design and software for DoD programs.
• Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and/or Java.
• Experience developing in Linux environments, including shell scripting.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, data structures, and design patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test complex software in C, C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java across diverse development environments.
• Refactor legacy monolithic software into modern, microservices-based architectures.
• Assess and deconstruct Navy tactical system code for Surface Navy Combat systems.
• Explore AI/ML, distributed processing, and modeling for next-gen solutions.
• Collaborate with customers to elicit requirements and document agreements.
• Deliver production-ready software that meets DoD security and performance standards.
• Work in small cross-site teams and participate in code/architecture reviews.
