Overview
We are seeking a California-licensed Defense Litigation Attorney to support a variety of civil and commercial litigation matters. This role offers the opportunity to independently manage litigation matters, collaborate with experienced legal professionals, and work in a flexible remote environment while handling sophisticated defense litigation cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage litigation matters from inception through resolution.
- Handle defense litigation matters including personal injury, property damage, negligence, subrogation, and other civil disputes.
- Investigate claims and analyze legal and factual issues.
- Develop case strategies and evaluate litigation risks and exposure.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, and settlement agreements.
- Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony.
- Participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Manage discovery processes, document review activities, expert coordination, and litigation hold compliance.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain litigation calendars, budgets, case plans, deadlines, and status reports.
- Support additional commercial and civil litigation matters as needed.
Must-Have Requirements
- Active California Bar license in good standing.
- Strong experience drafting motions, pleadings, and discovery documents.
- Experience taking and defending depositions.
- Knowledge of California civil procedure and court rules.
- Ability to independently manage multiple litigation matters and deadlines.
- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Utility industry litigation experience.
- Personal injury and property damage defense experience.
- Subrogation and recovery action experience.
- Experience with eDiscovery platforms and litigation technology tools.
- Mediation, arbitration, and trial experience.
