Job summary

Brad Foote Gear Works, Inc. seeks a Business Development Manager to drive new business in high-precision machining, gearing, and gearbox solutions for the defense sector. You will identify, qualify, and win profitable growth opportunities within the U.S.

defense base, coordinating with engineering, estimating, quality, operations and supply chain to deliver compliant proposals. This role is remote from a home office with up to 50% travel, including 10–15% at the Cicero, IL plant.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
• Proven defense industry sales experience with demonstrated wins.
• Experience selling complex engineered products and manufacturing services.
• Familiarity with ITAR/EAR, DFARS, and controlled data handling.
• Experience with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems is a plus.
• Strong network within defense, aerospace, and maritime/shipbuilding markets.

Responsibilities

• Own and grow a defense-focused sales pipeline for gears and machined components.
• Develop and execute account plans for primes, shipyards, depots, and subs.
• Manage RFQ/RFP responses with cross-functional teams to ensure competitive proposals.
• Negotiate terms (pricing, terms, lead times, warranty) in line with objectives.
• Lead regular business reviews and protect customer satisfaction.
• Travel up to 50% as required.
