Job summary

AIG is seeking a Claims Examiner to manage Defense Base Act claims, handling indemnity, medical and legal aspects with a focus on timely settlements and fraud mitigation. The role involves collaboration with brokers, medical experts, and clients' lawyers, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and policy interpretation.

Strong communication and negotiation skills, plus experience in settlement evaluation, are essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of legal/regulatory and litigation procedures for workers' compensation claims.
• Specialist knowledge of Defense Base Act claims is preferred.
• Experience in settlement evaluation and negotiation.
• Policy language skills enabling accurate interpretation of policy wording.
• Strong communication, time management, administrative and report-writing abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in directing and resolving Defense Base Act claims in line with best claim practices.
• Manage indemnity, medical and legal aspects of assigned claims using available resources.
• Utilize investigation, claim handling, litigation and evaluation skills to achieve timely, cost-effective settlements and protect recovery rights when applicable.
• Provide prompt, effective customer service to differentiate AIG from competitors.
• Identify and review suspect or fraudulent claims per guidelines.
• Maintain regular contact with internal stakeholders, brokers, medical experts, clients’ lawyers and injured workers or their representatives.
