Job summary

LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. in Lansing, MI is seeking a Defect Engineer I to identify and reduce battery cell defects caused by contamination. The role focuses on quality and continuous improvement in Li-ion battery cell manufacturing within a clean room environment.

You will apply structured problem solving (lean Six Sigma), utilize SEM equipment, prototype improvements, and train production teams on best practices while collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in engineering or related field required; MBA/MS preferred or equivalent experience.
• Lean Six Sigma certification required or preferred.
• 0-3 years of hands-on problem-solving in manufacturing or engineering.

Responsibilities

• Identify and reduce defects due to contamination in Li-ion cell manufacturing.
• Apply structured problem solving (lean Six Sigma) and use SEM for analysis.
• Design, prototype (including 3D printing) and pilot improvements.
• Verify effectiveness of improvements and standardize across the process.
• Train production teams on new practices and changes.
• Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to resolve issues.
• Review failure data and lab results to determine root causes.
• Maintain 5S3R standards at the work site.
