Hornblower is seeking a FT Deckhand for our City Ferry operation in Dauphin Island AL.

About You

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.

About The Opportunity

The Deckhand monitors the waterway and passengers to ensure safety during ferry operation. This position also handles mooring lines to dock or undock the vessel and transit locks while performing custodial and maintenance tasks as directed, all while providing a high level of customer service to ferry riders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Remain true to and champion the Company’s Core Values and Code of Conduct.
2. Prioritize safety at all times, actively participating in HMS Safety Culture.
3. Ensure reliability and efficiency of operations.
4. Monitor waterway, vessel, and passengers for safety during ferry operation.
5. Participate in onboard training and routine drills.
6. Know shipboard safety procedures and the location and use of safety equipment.
7. Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
8. Handle hazardous materials in compliance with MSDSs.
9. Follow the Watch Quarter Station Bill assignments.
10. Know safety equipment locations and proper use.
11. Participate in vessel operation within USCG and regulatory standards under the Captain's supervision.
12. Report hazards and participate in safety and seamanship training.
13. Assist with mooring, docking, and routine maintenance tasks.
14. Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional appearance.
15. Handle money, balance deposits, and generate reports as needed.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

1. HS Diploma
2. Valid First Aid/CPR Certification or ability to obtain
3. Valid TWIC card or ability to obtain
4. Valid Driver’s License
5. Copy of DD214 if Veteran
6. Effective interaction with passengers and team members
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
8. Basic computer skills
9. Previous customer service experience preferred
10. Must be at least 18 years old

Salary: $15/hour
