Job description

Job Title: Debug Technician

The Debug Technician performs detailed measurements and tests on complex electronic subsystems to identify root causes of board-level production test failures. This role focuses on localizing issues on micro-electronics printed circuit assemblies, documenting effective debug methodologies, and collaborating closely with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure thorough root-cause analysis and corrective actions. The position offers opportunities to contribute to quality metrics, support continuous improvement in production processes, and occasionally perform minor board rework in a lab environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform measurements and diagnostic tests on electronic subsystems to identify root causes of board-level production test failures.

  • Localize failures on printed circuit assemblies so rework technicians can address issues before boards re-enter the production flow.

  • Develop, refine, and document debug methodologies to resolve recurring and complex failure modes.

  • Compile and analyze test and measurement data to track failure modes, support quality metrics, and inform process improvements.

  • Use digital and analog test and measurement equipment, such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and logic analyzers, to troubleshoot complicated circuit boards and validate schematic diagrams.

  • Assess analog and mixed-signal circuits related to power development and distribution to identify performance or reliability issues.

  • Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams to prioritize debug activities and ensure completeness of root-cause analysis.

  • Document corrective actions and findings clearly and thoroughly to support ongoing production, quality assurance, and knowledge sharing.

  • Follow ESD procedures and use appropriate ESD equipment to protect sensitive electronic components during testing and handling.

  • Occasionally perform minor board-level rework when needed to support rapid resolution of production issues.

  • Apply strong analytical skills, curiosity, and a sense of responsibility to independently drive investigations to resolution.

  • Maintain an organized, accurate, and process-oriented approach to all testing, documentation, and communication.

Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant hands-on experience in electronics testing, measurement, debug, and root-cause analysis with micro-electronics printed circuit assemblies in a lab environment.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electronics, circuits, and hardware at the component level on printed circuit boards.

  • Experience using digital and analog test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and logic analyzers.

  • Ability to validate schematic diagrams through practical testing and measurement.

  • Experience assessing analog and mixed-signal circuits related to power development and distribution.

  • Familiarity with ESD (electro-static-discharge) equipment and procedures and the ability to apply them consistently.

  • Strong analytical abilities with a methodical approach to problem solving and root-cause analysis.

  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of responsibility and ownership of assigned tasks.

  • High level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail, with a results-oriented and process-oriented mindset.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort with mechanical assembly and hardware handling.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with ultrasound systems or medical devices is a plus.

  • Experience in medical device assembly, equipment repair, or rework is beneficial.

  • Experience performing board-level rework on electronic assemblies is a plus.

  • Familiarity with PCB layout concepts and component-level diagnostics.

  • Experience working with software, hardware, and systems engineers in a cross-functional environment.

  • Comfort with diagnostic testing procedures and quality-focused data collection.

  • Innate curiosity and interest in understanding complex failure modes and system behaviors.

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues alongside electronic and hardware problems.
