JOB SUMMARY
Dean of students is responsible for assisting the principal in the overall development of school culture that is conducive to teaching and learning. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to teacher supervision, professional learning communities, supervising student discipline and after school programs, and implementing character education programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide leadership in reforming the total educational program of the school. Work closely with individual teachers, as well as groups of teachers. Make classroom observations, create an atmosphere conducive to learning, and make effective utilization of resources available. Establish conditions that will promote effective learning for both students and teachers.
- Provide leadership to the staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long- and short-range plans for the school to which assigned. Identify, provide, assign, and coordinate in-service growth opportunities for teaching personnel within the school.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of all assigned personnel, recommend appropriate action in cases of substandard performances, and identify and encourage individual teachers with leadership potential.
- Implement effective student discipline procedures, maintain correspondence, documentation, and record-keeping related to discipline.
- Collaborate with building administration to refine a behavior management system that positively impacts student behavior in the school.
- Communicate effectively with the educational community, parents, and supplemental agencies as necessary.
- Foster an environment for staff and students conducive to learning.
- Work collaboratively with student services and counselors to support students, create opportunities, and coordinate events.
- Supervise and implement school-wide programs that increase student achievement and reduce disciplinary referrals.
- Supervise in-school suspension staff and hall monitors, and implement the student code of conduct policies.
- Assist with supervision of summer school programs and Saturday school.
- Support the principal in developing and implementing effective school-wide safety measures.
- Assist with supervision of extracurricular and after-school programs.
- Assist with academic data collection, data analysis, classroom observations, and implementation of academic initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to effectively use technology to monitor data and present information.
- Ability to interpret school, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of conflict resolution programs and ability to implement programs with administrators, parents, teachers, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to be flexible, work independently, and make effective decisions.
EDUCATION PREPARATION
Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of five years in education.
