Job Description

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Appear visibly and continuously in hallways and cafeteria throughout the day to ensure students are in class and handbook infractions are limited.
  • Act as a resource to staff for dealing with classroom management issues.
  • Investigate, adjudicate, and monitor minor handbook infractions through progressive discipline such as office detentions, lunch detentions, and Saturday School.
  • Report and refer all major handbook infractions to the assistant principal and assist with any resulting investigations, as requested.
  • Coordinate efforts with guidance, school resource officer, school adjustment counselors, and school psychologist to discuss and problem‑solve student attendance and/or behavior issues.
  • Consult with families, in collaboration with the assistant principal and guidance, concerning student attendance and behavior.
  • Document minor student behavior through the student management system (IC and/or SWIS).
  • Oversee daily office detentions (alternating with the assistant principal).
  • Assist principal and assistant principal with the annual review and update of the school handbook appendix.
  • Work collaboratively with staff associated with Connect and Pathways Programs to ensure policies and procedures are being followed by each student involved, including escorting students to and from the Connect/Pathways Program when appropriate.
  • On a rotating basis with other staff and administrators, monitor student lunch blocks to ensure all handbook policies are followed and students do not enter or leave without permission.
  • Participate in restraint training; become certified in its implementation, maintain the ability to implement restraint techniques, and be familiar with regulations related to restraint use.
  • Provide supervision at extracurricular and athletic events on a rotating schedule with principal and assistant principal (MS/HS).
  • Supervise/oversee summer school programming at MS/HS.
  • Assume responsibility when all other administrators are out of the building.
  • Check athletic eligibility (MS/HS).
  • Assist with PBIS programming (with assistant principal).
Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • The Dean of Students shall possess a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and at least three years of experience in an educational setting.
  • Experience in educational office systems and proficiency with Google email and applications.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills, and the ability to communicate with students, teachers, and families.
  • Additional qualifications may be required as determined by the Superintendent.
  • 200 work days per year.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
