Job summary

Michigan Law seeks an Assistant Dean for Student Life to oversee the Office of Student Life and support JD and LLM students. The role collaborates with faculty and administrators to ensure a vibrant, academically rewarding student experience.

The Assistant Dean leads orientation, supports student wellness, and advises on academic regulations, accommodations, and misconduct processes, reporting to the Senior Assistant Dean for Student Life.

Qualifications

• JD, masters in higher education, or equivalent degree.
• 7 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or the legal industry.
• Strong understanding of legal education, student affairs best practices, and trends.
• Experience with direct supervision of multiple staff members, as a consensus-builder and team leader.
• Ability to counsel law students and work with multicultural student populations.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic vision and operational support for the Office of Student Life.
• Lead policy development, ongoing assessment, communication to students, and crisis response.
• Collaborate with senior leaders and student organizations to foster community and student wellness.
• Plan and execute annual orientation, pre-orientation, and service day programs.
• Coordinate exam administration, bar certification, and accommodations processes.
• Develop programming to enhance student leadership and professionalism with Career Planning.
• Represent the Law School to internal and external constituencies.
• Attend student-led events, including weekends and evenings.
