Job summary

The University of Wisconsin–Madison invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. CALS is a premier leader in discovery, education and outreach with a broad spectrum of departments and interdisciplinary programs.

The Dean oversees 250 faculty and 800 staff across 14 departments, guiding strategic direction, academic programs, research, and public engagement while managing a $250 million budget and a statewide network of research

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in a discipline relevant to the position.
• A record of scholarly achievement and academic accomplishments appropriate to the individual’s discipline, and capable of receiving tenure and being appointed as a full professor at UW-Madison in CALS.
• At least 5 years in leadership roles with progressive levels of responsibility.
• Visionary leadership showing adaptability to a dynamic public research university.

Responsibilities

• Provide personnel oversight for the College, including recruitment of diverse faculty and staff.
• Lead instructional, research, extension and outreach missions of CALS.
• Serve as chief academic officer of the College.
• Participate in Deans Council and foster cross-campus collaborations.
• Oversee CALS budget and long-term planning.
• Advance the college’s fundraising and alumni activities.
• Promote an inclusive campus climate.
• Oversee and lead the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station.
