Job summary

Advocates is seeking a Deaf Interpreter to bridge communication between Deaf communities and non-deaf individuals across the agency. This hybrid role requires in-person duties in Massachusetts and supports communication access using ASL, tactile and other modalities.

The 30-hour, four-day work week emphasizes collaboration with ASL-English interpreters and cross-department teams. The ideal candidate will have an Associate's Degree, ASL fluency, and strong interpersonal skills, with preference

Qualifications

• Fluency in American Sign Language and written English.
• A.A. Degree required; B.A. or B.S. preferred.
• RID certification preferred; candidates should work toward national certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide language interpretation services across the agency using ASL, tactile modalities, and other visual communication.
• Facilitate Deaf-led Open Process model to meet linguistic and accessibility needs.
• Assess communication needs and adapt interpreting and captioning approaches.
• Translate English materials into ASL; collaborate with interpreters and staff.
• Communicate regularly with leadership to support accessibility planning and service delivery.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional conduct standards.
