Job summary

Brainerd Public Schools seeks a Long Term Sub: Teacher/Consultant for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing for the Paul Bunyan Education Cooperative.

The DHH Teacher/Consultant provides specialized instruction, assessment and support, collaborating with families, teachers, audiologists and other staff to ensure appropriate educational access and services. The role includes curriculum adaptation, IEP participation and required documentation.

Qualifications

• Teaching license for Deaf or Hard of Hearing (Birth to 22)
• Master of Education in Deaf Education
• Fluent ASL user

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction for DHH students in language and communication skills.
• Employs amplification aids with the Audiologist to support residual hearing.
• Makes periodic checks of hearing aids and reports conditions to parents and audiologist.
• Instructs students in development of communication skills individually.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers to provide interpreting, tutoring and language therapy for integration.
• Works with parents to support language learning outside school hours.
• Counsels individual students on performance, behavior, and progress.
• Conferences with coordinators, audiologists, speech therapists, psychologists, counselors and nurses on child progress.
• Administers standardized and non-standardized tests; prepares assessment reports for IEP meetings.
• Attends IEP meetings and completes required due process reports.
• Develops and adapts curriculum and materials for DHH students.
